September comes and it always feels like a new beginning, a new year, well a new school year that is. It marks the end of a hopefully carefree summer and a start of something new. Most of us are preparing to send our kid(s) back to school. Some of us have packed up our kid(s) and sent them off to college. Or maybe you are a teacher yourself preparing for a new year. Whatever the case may be exciting and new adventures await us.

And so I too view September as a new start for me as well. It’s a time to make new goals for myself, to refocus and get back on track especially if summertime was difficult for you.

Therefore, sit down today and take a few minutes to reevaluate what you want for this “new year”. Make SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.  Some of us struggle with making SMART goals because we want it and we want it now! Goals take time and patience. You need to be willing to put in the work to achieve your goals.  Keep in mind that you are not broken. You do not need to be fixed. Look for potential, not flaws! Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t.

Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to exercise more? Maybe you are exercising enough and want to change it up, try that new class you have been meaning to. Maybe step out of you comfort zone and train for a race. It could be a simple goal like drink more water. Eat out less. Get more sleep. Plan healthier meals. Eat clean.

Start with simple goals-  have a plan, break down your goal(s) into smaller doable steps and work towards your long term goals. Start by making one change towards that goal and add changes as you move forward. Writing down your goals and results as you see them will help keep you motivated. Remember to reward yourself along the way. Celebrate each victory no matter how small.

JeniFit is all about stepping outside your comfort zone and making change happen! There is such a supportive community within JeniFit, you are not alone. Let us help you reach your goals.

I started DYW in September 2014. Through the DYW program I was able to focus on specific goals I wanted to achieve like becoming healthier and losing weight. Those goals were broken down into smaller doable tasks. I kept a journal where I tracked my food and exercise. I was able to see when I had really good days and I began to celebrate the small victories. These small successes helped keep me motivated. My excitement and confidence grew.  My DYW group kept me inspired and held me accountable. The encouragement I felt and still feel today is unbelievable!

DYW helped me change my mindset. I began to accept that in order to take better care of my family I needed to take better care of myself! You can do it too!

Happy NEW Year! Happy NEW You!
